256 workers with Unifor are poised to strike should negotiations with the Saint Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation fail.
This comes after the three locals, 4212, 4323 and 4320 in Ontario and Quebec voted 99 percent in favour of strike action.
Negotiations began in mid June and more were held at the end of September.
Wages according to Unifor officials are the main sticking points.
More than 200 million tonnes of cargo are transported through the shipping route every year.
Bargaining will resume this upcoming Tuesday and run until Thursday.
Should those talks fail to reach an agreement workers will begin striking on October 21st.
