Area municipalities are learning how much in provincial transfer payments they will receive in 2024.
The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund helps municipalities offset their share of provincial programs.
A total of 500 million dollars will roll out to northern, rural and small municipalities.
“Maintaining a close relationship with our municipal partners is critical as we build a strong Ontario together,” says Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, in a release. “Our government recognizes the unique challenges northern, rural and small communities face. This is why the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, along with other programs, are critical in building stronger and resilient communities across the province.”
In northwestern Ontario, almost half the communities will see slight reductions in their allocations.
Many of them are in the Rainy River District.
Fort Frances, Atikokan and Emo are among those to see less money than last year.
Five communities, including Ignace, Red Lake and Rainy River, are receiving the same as last year.
Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden and Ear Falls are getting increases.
Here is the complete list of all northwestern Ontario communities and their allocations for 20024 compared to 2023.
