Consultants are close to finalizing their work on a new recreation plan for Fort Frances.
Open houses to gather input were held this week.
Landscape Architect H. T. Lamp with R.J. Burnside says the objective is to come up with a 10-year strategy.
“This is a living document. It’s going to have opportunities to update, adjust, and adapt, depending on the population base. Immigration is huge right now, so that could be an opportunity on what other programs to bring to service the community,” says Lamb.
Lamp says input was also gathered through an online survey, meeting with user groups and discussions with administration and town council.
Programs and facilities are being looked at.
“The facility is basically static because that’s all town-owned assets. Some are well utilized and well maintained. There are some that are not. So, those are the comments we need to get back from the public,” says Lamb.
“In terms of the programs, there might be some programs that are well utilized, well timed and scheduled. That’s great. Don’t change those. There are some programs that could be a one-off thing. Is it worthwhile to spend the money to run a program that’s underutilized? Maybe not.”
Consultants will use the feedback in drafting their report.
Lamb expects it and their recommendations to be presented to council within the next couple of months.
