A Vancouver-based exploration company is passing up on a project in Newfoundland to focus on one near Fort Frances.
Storm Exploration says it is ending an agreement on the Newfoundland project because of regulatory and market conditions.
The company plans to give its attention on a copper-zinc find within its gold exploration project located about 65 kilometres north of Fort Frances.
Drilling and further exploration is planned for later this year.
Storm signed agreements late last year with Naicatchewenin and Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nations as the area falls within their territories.
The area was the site of three small-scale gold mining operations in the early 1900s.
Storm confirmed the high-grade nature of the old workings through samples taken in 2022.
The presence of copper and zinc was identified by an airborne electromagnetic survey conducted in October 2022.
