Riverside Health Care is dealing with a gastrointestinal outbreak at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Officials say it is isolated to the acute patient unit located on the hospital’s first floor.
The hospital is limiting visits to two people at any one time.
Visitors are being encouraged to self-screen before entering and stay away if they are experiencing symptoms.
“We urge everyone to be diligent in practicing appropriate hand hygiene and infection prevention and control practices when visiting the hospital at any time. Frequent hand washing, particularly before and after patient contact, is mandatory and vital to reducing healthcare-associated infections,” a release from Riverside states.
Hospital officials say other measures are also being taken to prevent spread, including alternative arrangements for the admission of new patients if needed.
There is no impact on the hospital’s ability to provide services or programs.
“Riverside continues to have our detailed safety procedures and infection prevention control practices in place, designed to ensure the health and safety of our staff, the community and those within our care.”
