It is winter carnival time again in Nestor Falls.
The community celebrates the 42nd anniversary of the event this weekend.
The activities begin Friday night at the Nestor Falls Community Centre with the Fish Cook-Off Dinner and Dessert Competition.
The signature event is a fish derby that takes place on Saturday.
Anyone who enters will be eligible for the draw of an ice auger.
There is also a snowmobile scavenger hunt.
Event spokesperson Diana Krukoski says it is moving ahead with the recent dump of snow.
“This event is open to other vehicles besides just snowmobiles. We have spots that trucks, cars, and four-wheelers can access,” says Krukoski.
There is a photo contest that is free to enter.
Photos will be on display at the community hall for people to select as their favourite.
A cribbage tournament, starting at 11 a.m., and a dance at 9 p.m. with music by Shadow Junction also take place at the hall.
Sunday includes kids curling at the Nestor Falls Curling Club and a lumberjack competition at Nestor Falls Hardware.
Krukoski credits volunteer and community support for helping to stage events.
“Thank you to all of the members of the Nestor Falls Recreation Committee and especially the businesses that have donated to this event. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
