Ontario Provincial Police continue to seek out new recruits.
An information session will take place tonight at the detachment in Fort Frances.
Piper Cross, a cadet with the OPP, says it is an opportunity to speak to officers and learn what it takes to be in policing.
“The OPP is a very diverse group of people, and it doesn’t matter how old you are or your previous job experience, everyone comes onto the job with a different life experience,” says Cross. “And that’s what makes you an asset to work with the OPP.”
Cross says the OPP is always hiring and looking for qualified candidates.
Cross says there are positions available as regular constables, special constables and cadets.
Civilian positions in administration are also available.
Cross was hired as a cadet last fall and participated in a two-week training program in Orillia before returning to work at the detachment in Fort Frances.
“It’s been very rewarding. You get to see all aspects of the job. As a cadet, I work with all the units in the office, so that (includes) assisting with frontline officers, the crime unit and the admin side of the job. So you really get to see if you like the job or not, and if you want to continue with it.”
Cross says being a cadet is not required to join the OPP, noting there are other avenues to a career in policing.
The session goes from 6-9 p.m.
