Ontario’s new Energy Minister is excited about his new post.
Former Education Minister Stephen Lecce now heads the Ministry renamed Energy and Electrification.
He says it recognizes the need to build a system that meets future needs.
“The reality is we need more energy,” says Lecce, “and the mission of our government is to build upon Ontario’s already ambitious plan to scale up our energy using all forms, be it nuclear and natural gas and renewables, where you need to take an all the above approach to build for the future.”
One of his first duties was signing nuclear development agreements with Romania and France.
Lecce says the province needs nuclear, as well as natural gas and renewables, to help with the power demand, and he will not revert the province into, what he calls energy poverty.
“We have a responsible plan to build clean, clean, reliable energy, affordable energy. We’re expanding our nuclear feed, but to be fair, we’re supporting all forms of energy, including renewables because we need all of that. We need all forms of energy in order to build our province,” says Lecce.
He adds it would be irresponsible to deny any form of energy.
