Two road projects planned for Fort Frances this year may not happen.
Town council is expected to discuss, at their meeting tonight, an administration report that recommends the improvements to Third Street West between Central and York Avenues and Scott Street between Reid and Mosher Avenues be delayed until 2025.
Administration states late announcements regarding Connecting Link funding led to the town delaying its ability to issue tenders.
The funding is usually announced in March or April.
It did not come out this year until late May.
It says contractors expressed concern about not completing the jobs or even starting this year because of the work they have already lined up this summer.
The town could tender the projects and have construction start this year, but administration fears this could result in higher costs.
There is also concern that if the projects are not completed this year, it would likely mean the roads remain as gravel sections during the winter, causing complications for winter maintenance and the motoring public.
Administration prefers the projects be tendered for start in 2025.
The town would require approval from the provincial government to carry over the Connecting Link funding into next year.
