An opportunity to learn some basketball skills from professionals playing in Portugal.
Thunder Bay’s Karissa Kajarinne will put on the camp next month for youth in grades 4 to 12.
She says her partner will be assisting.
“He plays overseas there professionally as well. So, we’re going to do some co-ed training for the kids,” says Kajarinne.
“It’ll be a lot of skill development. We’ll have a ton of different levels. Lots of skills, lots of development, lots of games, lots of playing. Just for them to have a fun week, learn new skills and expose them to basketball a little bit more.”
Kajarinne, who played university basketball at Algoma and later Lakehead, ran a similar camp before the pandemic.
She was hoping to do it more frequently until the pandemic hit.
Now playing in Portugal, she was able to make time for a return visit.
“I like doing a lot of stuff with the youth. I ran a lot of our youth programming at Algoma University, and I’ve always helped out with all of the Junior Wolf stuff anytime I’m in town here in Thunder Bay.”
“I really like running these youth programs, especially in the north, just because we don’t have access to as much as they do down south.”
A few spots are still open for the camp.
It happens during the week of August 5th, with youth in grades 4 to 8 attending an afternoon session and those in grades 9 to 12 attending in the morning.
