There is a campaign underway to raise funds for the family of the worker killed at New Gold’s Rainy River Mine.
A GoFundMe page identifies him as Jeffrey Woolsey.
The initiative aims to raise five thousand dollars for his family.
The goal was close to being exceeded as of this morning.
The page states the money will alleviate some of the financial burden on the family as they prepare for a celebration of Woolsey’s life.
Meantime, the investigation into his death continues.
In an email to Acadia News, the Ministry of Labour says it has sent two inspectors to the mine site as part of its probe.
It says the employee with New Gold suffered fatal injuries after he was struck by material while working in the open pit.
Operations at the mine have been shut down as the investigation takes place.
