A traffic enforcement campaign has resulted in OPP in northwestern Ontario issuing nearly 900 charges for various infractions.
The campaign was conducted during the August long weekend.
It was part of a province-wide initiative that focused on drivers who were aggressive, distracted, impaired and unbuckled.
A total of 873 charges were laid in northwestern Ontario.
Over 60%, or 524, were issued to drivers who failed to watch their speed.
Four motorists were charged with racing or stunt driving.
Twenty-one people were nabbed for failing to wear their seatbelt, with another 27 caught driving while impaired.
Officers also used the weekend to educate motorists about Ontario’s Move Over Law.
One ticket was issued to a motorist who failed to slow down and move over when passing police or other emergency vehicles at the side of a road.
Province-wide, OPP laid 8,050 charges associated with various traffic, marine and off-road vehicle laws between August 2-5.
