Some municipal facilities will get upgrades with support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
Almost $600 thousand has been issued to the town of Fort Frances.
Greg Rickford, Kenora-Rainy River MPP and Minister of Northern Development, made the announcement during a visit to the fire hall on Wednesday.
The town will use $366,375 on renovations to the fire hall.
Another $187,500 will go to install a backup power system at the Fort Frances Municipal Airport.
Thirty thousand dollars will be used to replace roofs at the Sister Kennedy Centre workshop, the mortuary at the Fort Frances Cemetary and the office building at Point Park.
“By funding critical projects for community assets like the fire hall, the airport, and other local hubs, we are ensuring that our emergency services are well-equipped, our infrastructure is reliable, and our communities remain safe and vibrant – now and into the future,” says Rickford.
The NOHFC funding will offset between 50% and 75% of the total project costs.
The town is committed to funding the rest of the money needed.
“All of these projects will contribute to the safety and usability of community assets and are vital to maintaining and improving the quality of life in our community,” says Andrew Hallikas, Mayor of Fort Frances.
