The Cyclone Swim Club could see their pool charges reduced.
Fort Frances town administration is proposing a 15% reduction to the hourly fee paid by the club to use the swimming pool at the Memorial Sports Centre for this season only.
The Cyclones asked earlier this month for a reduction to help rebuild its coffers that were impacted by last season’s pool closure and another this month for renovations.
In putting forward the proposed lower rate, administration states it would be “a gesture of goodwill” toward the club.
It would save the swim club about $4,000.
The Cyclones have booked the pool for a total of 328 hours this season.
A review of all pool charges is also happening.
That report is expected to come before council in late November.
The current hourly rate of $86.15 does include the cost of having lifeguards on duty.
Administration says it aligns with the rates charged in other regional municipalities.
Kenora charges $85.49 an hour without lifeguards.
Dryden’s rate is $68.50 per hour with lifeguards but has a higher non-resident rate.
Atikokan charges $55.75 with lifeguards.
International Falls charges $25 (USD) plus an additional $18 (USD) for lifeguards.
The rate doubles for for-profit groups.
Council is expected to discuss the rate reduction for the Cyclones at their meeting on Monday night.
