The Canadian Curling Club Championships open today in Barrie.
Kim Beaudry of Fort Frances skips a women’s team representing Northern Ontario.
Her rink includes Barb Roy, Victoria Beaudry and Taylor Sopotiuck.
They earned their berth in the spring.
“It’s made it a little bit challenging for us as it’s a quick event in the fall, in November,” says Beaudry.
“We haven’t had that many games together this year yet, but we’ve been on the ice practicing when we can, individually and as a team, and hopefully, we’ll be able to go there and get a couple of wins and just do our best.”
The event features club teams, but Beaudry expects the level of competition still to be very strong.
“I actually officiated at this event last year in Winnipeg and got to view what the skill level that went on.”
The foursome plays their first game this afternoon against the team representing Prince Edward Island.
