Fort Frances council is expected to approve new water and sewer rates at their meeting tonight.
Four proposals are on the table for council’s consideration.
One calls for a 3.4% rate increase to all 2024 rates, generating an extra $233,244.79 in revenue for future sewer and water improvements.
A second would increase the volumetric minimum to 10 cubic metres from nine, using the 3.4% rate increase, leading to a 3.42% hike for residential customers and a 3.4% percent increase for the industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) sector.
This would generate $220,339.74 in added revenue.
Another proposal offers a 2.51% increase for residential customers and a 2.5% increase for the ICI sector.
The revenue generated by this proposal would be $178,245.77.
The fourth scenario would fix residential rates at 2.24%, while industrial and commercial user rates would increase by 3.77%.
Institutional users would see a 3.25% increase.
This would increase to $178,197.78 in revenue.
The town’s assessment management notes there are more than 30 kilometres of sanitary sewer and 40 kilometres of water lines that need to be replaced, costing more than $50 million.
