Unexpected operational challenges are blamed for a shortfall in production at New Gold’s Rainy River Mine.
A total of 60,768 ounces were produced at the mine during the last three months of 2024.
That is about 4,000 less than was produced in the same period in 2023.
New Gold says unexpected mechanical problems in December with the mine’s crushing and conveying system contributed to the production shortfall.
As a result, the mine’s production fell short of its target of 230,000-240,000 ounces for the year.
On a positive note, the mine saw its first ore from underground operations during the last quarter ahead of schedule.
New Gold intends to release next month updated technical reports outlining plans to increase production while lowering costs.
