Another northwestern Ontario MP is throwing their support behind Mark Carney for the federal Liberal leadership.
Marcus Powlowski believes Carney’s financial expertise and leadership are what is needed to help address the high cost of living and U.S. trade tariffs.
“The guy’s got an incredible, incredible background in issues which are really central to us as Canadians right now,” says Powlowski.
“He has a proven track record through the 2008 financial crisis and Brexit that he’s dealt with major kind of challenges like this in the past.”
Powlowski says Carney also offers the Liberal party an opportunity to bring energy back into the party.
“I really like Christie Freeland for a whole bunch of reasons. The fundamental issue with Christie Freeland is people see Chrystia and think Justin Trudeau. That’s just the reflex kind of thing and that’s going to take quite a few months to get over that.”
Powlowski joined fellow MP Patty Hajdu who indicated earlier last week her support to Carney.
Federal Liberals will elect a new leader on March 9th.
