PC leader Doug Ford kicked off the provincial election in Windsor on Wednesday.
Using the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit, Michigan, as a backdrop, Ford reiterated the need for a stronger mandate in the fight against U.S. trade tariffs set to come into play this weekend.
“We need a strong leadership that is prepared to do whatever lies ahead,” says Ford.
“Despite the chaos we now see in Ottawa, I made it very clear that our government will rise above politics and partisanship to work with any prime minister to keep Ontario and Canada safe.”
Ford revealed plans to spend tens of billions of dollars on an economic strategy but is not saying how it will be implemented until he knows what areas the new trade tariffs will impact.
“Until I see what areas and what sectors are affected, I can’t just come up with an area that might not be affected. But once it comes, you’ll hear loud and clear on how we’re going to support the people of Ontario.”
Ford also distinguished himself from his opponents as being the best person to sit down and negotiate with President Donald Trump over trade issues.
“There’s experience on one side with the PC Party and zero experience with the other three parties. I’ll tell you who I’m betting on. I’m betting on the PC Party.”
