Today is National Aboriginal Day.
There are several events taking place across the Rainy River district in celebration.
Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services Behavioral Health Services is hosting what they are calling the first Summer Solstice Pow-Wow.
It’s taking place at the Nanicost Grounds, moving indoors to the Nanicost gym in the event of rain.
Director Lori Flinders says there’s a full agenda planned with Grand Entries to take place both a 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
There’s also a supper feature at 5:30 p.m.
There will also be a few guest speakers.
The event is open to everyone.
There is also a pow-wow scheduled to take place at Couchiching First Nation.
It goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fort France Public Library is also celebrating National Aboriginal Day.
Program coordinator Andrea Avis says they’re hosting the OC Band Cultural Presentation that will include the Crossroads Youth Hand Drum Group.
It begins at 6:30 p.m. and is also free to the public.
The United Native Friendship Centre is holding a Bannock Burger Fundraising Bar-b-que at its office on Portage Ave.
It goes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Proceeds are going to the UNFC’s food bank.
