The provincial government is committing an extra $100-million toward forest firefighting efforts in Ontario.
Part of the money will be used to pay for the personnel support being received from other provinces, the U.S. and Mexico.
About 480 firefighters and support staff from outside the province are currently working alongside the nearly one thousand Ontario fireRangers on fires across northern and central Ontario.
Normally, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry receives about 70 million dollars for forest fire suppression efforts.
Minister Jeff Yurek says this has been one of the worst fire seasons in over a decade, and they’ll dedicate as many resources necessary to fight the wildfires.
