The newest family to Fort Frances is beginning to settle into their new surroundings.
The Al-Zeebaree family fled ISIS-controlled Mosul in Iraq several years ago with very few possessions.
They eventually found temporary housing in Lebanon before being sponsored by the group Families for Families in their move to the community.
They arrived in Fort Frances on the weekend.
Speaking through an interpretor, Bashar Al-Zeebaree is very appreciative of support he, his wife and their four children have received.
“I am so happy they support me a lot and thankful to them,” says Bashar.
His wife Julia is also pleased to be living in Fort Frances.
“I feel safe for my kids. They are going to learn. They are going to have a nice life here in Canada.”
The family’s main priority will be to learn English
The Al-Zeebaree’s two young children plan to enrol in school next week.
Their daughter Sarah also wants to improve on her English so she can attend College or University in the future.
She knows some English, learning it by watching movies and listening to music.
