The Sister Kennedy Centre will be renamed.
Fort Frances town council narrowly agreed Monday to endorse a change to the Fort Frances Seniors Centre.
Councillor June Caul, who sits on the Centre’s board of directors, says there’s some mixed feelings about how the Centre got its original name.
She adds Sister Betty Kennedy, one of the driving forces behind it being established, didn’t want the recognition in the first place.
Caul says there’s also a misconception that the facility is only for Catholic people.
Other councillors, including Ken Perry, felt the centre was named after Kennedy for a reason and the existing name should stay.
While the name of the building will changed, Kennedy will still recognized.
Plans are for her name being placed on a memory wall located on the inside of the building.
