A Fort Frances town councillor is expressing his disappointment with northwestern Ontario Senator Lynn Beyak.
A week after a ruling from the Senate Ethics Officer, Doug Judson notes letters deemed racist are still posted on Beyak’s Senate website.
Judson feels the Senator should resign if she’s not going to use her position to advance the area’s priorities.
“It has been six days since the Ethics Officer’s report was released. In 6 days, Senator Beyak has not removed the racist letters from her website. And in 6 days, she has continued to besmirch not only the integrity of the Senate, but to embarrass our community, and disrespect the trauma of so many of the people who live here,” says Judson.
Judson says there are so many other priorities the Senator could use her office to support.
“This circus has been a stain on the political character of this region on the national stage. If the Senator will not – finally – face the facts and use her office to advance the priorities of our communities, she should resign,” says Judson.
In his ruling, the Senate Ethics Officer notes Beyak had agreed to remove the letters only to later retract her decision.
He also asked her to issue an apology and enroll in cultural sensitivity training.
