A Winnipeg firm has been selected to help identify potential uses for the former Shevlin Wood Yard.
HTFC Planning and Design will also explore what the town of Fort Frances wants to do with the mill’s former nursing station acquired last year in a deal with Resolute Forest Products.
Mayor June Caul expects the public will get a say.
“I would imagine that one of the first jobs that will be done when the consulting firm comes is to bring in the public and get some ideas from the public,” says Caul.
Caul says from there, council will sit down with the consulting firm and come up with a final plan. She doesn’t foresee any development taking place at the former wood yard for at least a year or two.
“It was it being such a huge area, I mean there are so many potential ideas about things that could go in there. So we’ll wait and see and what see what the public suggest most of all.
Funding from the provincial and federal governments are expected to help fund the study.
The town is just waiting for official word that its grants requests have been accepted before allowing the firm to begin its job.
