The lobby group People for Education is out with it’s analysis of the provincial government’s recent changes to the education system.
Executive director Annie Kidder estimates that if all the changes are implemented it will result in about one billion dollars being taken taken out of the education system in Ontario.
She suggests that schools in northern Ontario will be particularly hard hit.
“It will be really, really hard. It’s already hard enough in the north in smaller schools. It will be hard to run classes that have generally lower enrollment or have smaller numbers, like a grade 12 calculus class,” suggests Kidder.
Kidder adds the proposed changes will result in 92-hundred fewer teaching jobs in Ontario.
