The provincial government is defending its redesign of Ontario’s licence plates.
The tag line ‘Your to Discover’ will be replaced with ‘A Place to Grow’ on the plates of passenger vehicles and ‘Open For Business’ on commercial vehicles beginning next February.
Minister of Government and Consumer Services Bill Walker says it was time.
Walker promises the new plates will also be more durable than existing one which have been susceptible to peeling.
Distribution of the new plates will begin next February.
There are also no plans to eliminate front licence plates from vehicles.
There had been some concern from police agencies after reports Ontario would be going to a single plate.
Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek says keeping both front and rear plates is part of the government’s effort to help police do their jobs.
