An effort to promote cycling within the Heart of the Continent Partnership area.
Three different rides are planned for this September in Koochiching County.
Voyageur National Park Superintendent Bob Degros says Bike For Heart is to raise awareness of the biking opportunities in the area.
“The purpose for this of course is to just encourage people to recognize the biking facilities that we have in our community and also to try to encourage visitation to the area. Letting people know that there are biking opportunities that are out there that they can take advantage of,” says Legros.
Planning is still underway but Legros says they are looking at three different routes for cyclist enthusiasts.
“The primary ride is a long distance ride that we’re proposing to do from International Falls to Littlefork, across to Ray on (County Rd) 217) and then back to international falls on Highway 53. Obviously this is a major road ride, 55 miles in length. I will not be riding it, but there are people out there that are our bike enthusiasts that look for events like this,” says Legros.
The other rides are shorter in distance. A 24 mile one will take cyclists from International Falls to the Island View area and to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center and back using existing bicycle trails.
A ten-mile route would go through the city of Ranier.
The rides are scheduled for September 28.
