Northern Development and Mines Minister Greg Rickford was in the Rainy River district Monday for a few funding announcements.
It included presenting over $56-thousand to Hyatt’s Manion Lake Camp to build a new outpost camp and install solar panel to reduce energy costs.
“In northwestern Ontario, supporting these kinds of businesses is important. They’ve gone through some tough times over the past few years, post camps in general. We’re starting to see them rebound and we’re thrilled to be able to support them,” says Rickford.
The town of Rainy River received over $31-thousand to hire an intern to promote the community’s programs and events.
Rickford is confident it will lead to a full=time position.
“If the person works out and it’s a place and a job that they’d like to do, there’s a strong probability that they’ll be working for years to come.”
Dawson township is being funding for the replacement of a culvert on Colonization Road in Pinewood.
It’s among projects the province sent to the federal government for final approval under a joint infrastructure program.
“They’ve signaled an intention, but these things always have to be finalized. The federal government’s winding up its businesses as they had into a election season in the coming months but we’re very confident that at this point that they’ll that they’ll sign on.”
