Rylee Redford slugged a pair of home runs, including a grand slam to help the Fort Frances Angels to a 15-7 win over the Red Gut Babes in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League.
In a make-up game from one cancelled earlier in the month, the Mud Dogs edged Red Gut 13-12.
Elsewhere, Couchicing defeated Northwest Bay 7-3.
It was Dawson, 9-3 winners over the Big Grassy Lynx.
The Her-ricanes shut out the Mud Dogs 4-0.
Manitou forfeited its game to the Renegades.
Another member of the Fort Frances Lakers is off to the college ranks.
Netminder Jacob Gnidziejko heads to Portage College in Lac La Biche, Alberta where he will suit up for the Portage Voyagers of the ACAC.
Gnidziejko played in 37 games with the Lakers last season.
He was also a member of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs championship team the year prior.
It will be a new look to the division the Fort Frances Muskies play in the Winnipeg High School Football League.
The Muskies will be part of the six-team Division 3 Conference, formerly known as Currie Division.
The division’s top two finalists from last year, St. John’s and Elmwood have moved up to Division 2 while Lorette Collegiate has ended its football program.
They’ll be replaced by Neelin, who drops down from Division 2, and newcomers Springfield Collegiate.
The Muskies will open their season September 13 against Springfield.
