Discussions continue between the town of Fort Frances and area First Nations over the future of Point Park.
Mayor June Caul says the town’s First Nations Advisory Committee is working in partnership with the Chiefs of the four Indigenous communities connected to the park on a restoration and revitalization plan for the area.
“We continue to meet monthly and will continue to discuss our aspirations for our communities,” says Caul.
Caul says they hope to identify some proposals that will come before council at a later date.
Officials started meeting after the signing of a new relationship agreement struck between Fort Frances and Couchiching, Mitaanjigamiing, Naicatchewenin, and Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nations in May.
