Fort Frances Museum wants to celebrate language.
It’s seeking out people interested in telling a story in their own language.
Curator Sherry George says it’s a way of sharing cultural experiences and promoting languages.
“It’s a very good time for that. I think we really want to be welcoming to other cultures, and I feel that that’s a really good time to have something along that line,” says George.
The goal is to have an event sometime in October or November.
“So, someone would tell a story. It could be a story on anything out of their childhood or their experience with language or whatever you wish and they would tell it in their Indigenous language and then they would repeat it in English.”
A planning session for those interested is taking place at the Museum tonight beginning at 6 p.m.
The event would also connect with this year being known as International Year of Indigenous Languages.
