Home and community care services are getting another $155-million over the next year from the provincial government.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the goal is to help patients who don’t need to be in a hospital to still get the care they need.
“To support the delivery of high quality, rehabilitation and recovery to patients, in a safe environment outside of a hospital, and home and community care such as helping patients to move more quickly out of a hospital,” says Elliott.
Ontario’s health minister adds the money will help organizations who provide home and community care to collaborate better and end hallway medicine.
She says it’ll pay for more nursing and therapy visits among other services.
“We can provide additional direct community services, for patients, for example, with acquired brain injury, and seniors living in supportive housing.”
Part of the investment includes $45-million for services in high need areas.
“We can provide an estimated 1.8-million more hours of personal support services, nearly half a million more nursing visits, and 100,000 more therapy visits.”
