The town of Fort Frances is giving the public an opportunity to tour the daycare centre as a way of gathering feedback to determine if it can be used as a seniors centre.
It will take place Saturday, October 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Councillor Wendy Brunetta says concerns with the Fort Frances Seniors Centre has them exploring options.
“We have difficulty with a number of things people have mentioned. One is parking. We have very limited parking there. The facility is so small it’s difficult to run two sets of programs at the same time. There’s just too much noise,” says Brunetta.
There’s has been some discussion in the past about expanding the facility but Brunetta says space is limited and any expansion wouldn’t be very large.
The daycare centre will become vacant next month when the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board opens its facilities.
Brunetta says they’re still far from making a final decision though.
“It still has to go to counsel if this is something that the (Fort Frances Seniors Centre) board decides should happen. There are also some renovations required so we’d have to rely on some grants for that. So there’s a lot of different factors that will have to be taken into account,” says Brunetta.
Brunetta adds any member of the public is welcome to attend next month tour.
