Taking further steps against the stigma surrounding mental health.
This is mental health awareness week and the Fort Frances branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association holds its annual Steps Against Stigma Glow walk or run.
Educator/Trainer ‘s Christie Cousineau says it’s still important to talk about it.
“Especially in our community and throughout the district, about the stigma that surrounds mental health and mental illness. It’s a small conversation it’s a simple conversation it can start out with saying ‘how are you today.’ So if we can start those conversations we’re reducing the stigma that surrounds it,” says Cousineau.
It’s estimated mental illness indirectly and directly affects more than 6-million Canadians across the country.
The walk goes tomorrow night at 7 p.m. from the Sorting Gap Marina. Visit the event’s tab of our website for registration information.
