Nick Swain’s goal with 33 seconds remaining in the third gave the Fort Frances Lakers a 4-3 home win over the Red Lake Miners last night.
The Lakers rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a pair of late second period goals from Stone Stelzl and Reece Hopfner to tie the game.
The win ends a 3-game winless streak and leapfrogs the Lakers past Red Lake for second place in the standings.
The Lakers next host Thunder Bay on Friday.
Rainy River Voyageurs women’s volleyball team dropped their seventh straight, losing to Central Lakes in Brainerd in three straight games.
Scores were 11-25,6-25 and 13-25.
Another strong showing for the International Falls Broncos cross country running teams.
The varsity girls team finished third at an Iron Range Conference meet at Hoyt Lakes.
Ryan Ford in 5th, Abbi Hutchinson in 8th and Bailey Herberg in 12th gained All-Conference honours.
Jake Erickson in 6th and Parker Sivonen in 10th earning the same honours as the boys team finished 5th overall.
In the junior varsity run, Loralei Ford outran her Bronco teammate Ellen Windels for the win.
Keira Hessldahl had a seventh-place showing in the junior high event.
A win in the pool for the Broncos as the varsity girls swim and dive team outscored their opponents from Warroad, taking 7 of twelve events.
Elly Nelson won both the 100 and 50 free. Gracie Bowles won the 200 IM. Havyn Pelland took the 100 butterfly. Macey Marcotte captured the 100 backstroke. Kaitlyn Kalstad was victorious in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 yard medley relay team took the other win.
Broncos swimmers also won five events in the match-up of junior squads.
