The town of Fort Frances is applying for some money to plant trees.
Council agreed at their meeting last night to make an application through community improvement programs offered by CN and New Gold for trees at town parks located at Phair Avenue and Lillie Avenue.
The trees are being seen as being able to provide park users with shelter from the sun and wind.
The town has been working with Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry officials on the proposal.
If the town is successful with its applications, planting would take place next year.
Meantime, the town says some of the new trees will be planted to replace those removed from Second Street East.
About a dozen trees were removed this year during the construction project.
The town adopted a policy in February to no longer have trees on its boulevards to protect infrastructure underground.
In response to a resident’s inquiry, Operations and Facilities Manager Travis Rob says twelve trees removed from Second Street will be replaced with new ones to be planted at the Lillie Avenue, Phair Avenue and McIrvine town parks next spring.
