They may not be eligible to vote Monday but students in the Rainy Rainy district are having their say in this year’s federal election.
Several classrooms are taking part in a program known as Student Vote Canada, designed to educate young people about the voting process.
Fort Frances High School participated in a schoolwide vote that was run by students.
Ellayna Kabel says part of the exercise is to help students understand the election process.
“We’re holding it to inform people about how elections work so when they’re older they know what they’re doing and know how to do a proper vote and be informed about what they’re doing it,” says Kabel.
The results of their vote will be released on election night.
Emma Toriseva says part of their class’ work included some advance promotion.
“We made posters and we did commercials. We kind of just inform the school about it so that they could now how to vote,” says Toriseva.
In total, more than one million elementary and secondary students took part in similar exercises across the country.
