The Northwestern Health Unit is encouraging everyone to get a flu shot.
It’s flu shot clinics will get underway next month.
You can now book an appointment through the health unit website or by calling 1-866-468-2240.
The Health Unit’s Infectious Diseases Program Specialist Shannon Brown says those considered to be at high risk of getting the flu should get the shot.
“Some of those groups include pregnant women, adults and children that have chronic health conditions, as well as people that are looking after those with high-risk conditions such as health care workers and family members of really young children or those over the age of 65,” says Brown.
Brown says there are also steps you can take to avoid the flu or spreading it to others.
“You can protect yourself by ensuring that you’re washing your hands frequently, eating a well-balanced diet, drinking plenty of fluids and one of the most important things that you can do is if you are sick stay home from work and from school so that you’re not spreading illness to others.”
Flu shots can also be obtained at participating pharmacies across the region or from your family physician.
