It’s taking longer to deal with cases before the courts.
A study released by Statistics Canda says it’s taking an average of 119 days in adult criminal court and 113 days in youth court.
Compared to a decade ago, that’s seven days more to complete a charge in adult court and 16 more in youth court.
Stats Canada says there are fewer people heading to court but the longer processing times could relate to charges being more complex.
In Ontario, the province has the longest average length for a youth going through the justice system at 148 days from their first appearance to a final decision.
