Hundreds of residents across the Rainy River district gathered for Remembrance Day ceremonies Monday.
Ceremonies were held in several communities.
In Fort Frances, about 200 withstood the cold at the Fort France Cemetary to pay tribute to the men and women who fought in past conflicts.
Mayor June Caul was among those to lay wreaths at the cenotaph.
“Being able to lay a wreath at the cenotaph is a real honor and just to remember everybody who has always and continues to be there keeping our world as safe as it can be,” says Caul.
Matt Stalmach, a gunner with the 106th Independent Field Battery based in Kenora, was among many military personal serving our country in attendance.
He’s very appreciative to those attend.
“Every time I come to the cemetery I bring one of my great uncle’s medals from World War I. It’s just so great to see people that are coming back here and honoring it every year,” says Stalmach.
The Fort Frances ceremony was also joined by veterans from International Falls.
Ceremonies were also held in Emo, Rainy River, Atikokan, Rainy River First Nation and Couchiching First Nation.”
